gecko art quilt wall hanging

gecko art quilt wall hanging

This week I have been finishing off an appliqued gecko wall hanging that I started a little while ago. The gecko is hand stitched using silk thread which I like to use because the stitches blend into the fabric and are almost invisible. I’ve used all batiks in this hanging and the border is a fabric I ordered over the internet thinking to replace some fabric I’d bought last year, however when it arrived it was a lot brighter than the fabric I’d had before. At first I thought I wasn’t going to be able to use it but I had a lovely mottled fabric which I used for the gecko and with the dark background and bright accent border I was pleased with how it turned out. Actually I like the combination so much and as I have quite a bit fo the fabric I decided I would make a set of cushions in the same colour combinations but this time I will satin stitch the geckos.

I quilted the main part of the design with invisible thread and a variegated cotton thread in the border.
