Molly-2

Just over a month ago we acquired a tiny black kitten as a companion to Millie our one year old ginger cat that my husband rescued from the side of the road last June. Our other cat Hector is sixteen years old and takes a dim view of being pounced on and generally  treated with disrespect so we felt that Millie needed someone nearer her own age to play with. My friend Karen just happened to mention on Facebook that one of her sons had just brought home another rescued kitten; I know that she doesn’t normally part with any of her rescued cats but I thought I’d ask anyway and was delighted when she said I could have the kitten if I wanted, so Molly came home.

She was very tiny when we first got her, and  a little bit weak, but it didn’t take very long at all for her to find her feet and for Millie, the ginger cat, to accept her as a playmate. Millie seems huge in comparison but nothing deters little Molly, and she seems to have incredibly long spider like legs, all the better for kicking and grabbing.

It has transformed Millie’s life and she seems to be so contented now.

She loves her fluffy mice, and this tunnel arrangement keeps them amused for hours.

It didn’t take her long to make herself at home on one of my patchwork quilts.

Or another! This is one that never got finished as I wasn’t happy with the quilting on it, but the cats don’t seem to mind the unbound edges.

Of course, it didn’t take her long to find her way into my sewing room.

  1. Cute! I especially like the last picture. She is a beauty.

  2. I love kitties and your photos are just adorable! I bet you can spend countless hours just watching them play.

  3. I think she is going to grow into a real beauty, she has a lovely face, very pointy, quite different to our other cats so I wonder if perhaps she has some Siamese in her. Very sweet temperament too.

  4. Yes Mary, it’s very easy to get distracted by watching them play, especially when they seem to like coming in the kitchen while I’m cooking. It’s a wonder I haven’t had any major disasters yet, apart from burning my fingers on a hot rack the other day, and I can’t blame them for that.

  5. I love cats! we always had one until 4 years ago. When our last one died and Mike was retiring we knew we would be traveling off and on and a motor home is not a place I want to have to have a cat litter box! We have no one at home to take care of a pet either so we decided to not have one for now (also both son-in-laws) are allergic to cats and we do want them to feel free to visit so best not to have cats anymore. I just have to enjoy everyone else’s cats.

  6. She is so beautiful. What fun the two of them will have growing up together.

  7. hello Molly you gorgeous girl :o ) I think you have probably transformed more than just Millie’s life with your fun and games and lovely miaows. My black cat Mikey is 6 years old but still loves to spread out on the bed like you and if I could reach into the screen I’d give your tummy a rub and I bet you’d stretch out just that little bit further and show us just how long you can be x

  8. Karen, it’s a pity that you can’t have a cat any more, they are such wonderful company. I can also understand you not wanting to travel around in a motor home with a cat, although I remember seeing an Italian family in Spain once and they seemed to have an array of cats and dogs with them.

  9. Michele, the two of them are having such fun together and I love just watching them play. She’s starting to get a bit naughty now though and has developed a liking for climbing into a plant pot we have in the patio, she fits in it just nicely, but she also kicks out all the soil and makes an awful mess. This morning I found a whole toilet roll unravelled and in a heap on the bathroom floor, probably with Millie’s encouragement as that used to be one of her favourite tricks.

  10. Mikey looks like a lovely cat. Molly, if the length of her legs is anything to go by looks like she might grow into quite a big cat, although in general the cats here in Brunei are much smaller than most in Europe. Our older cat Hector is a very ‘long’ cat, when he stretches out he’s over a metre in length!
